Similar to the chemical characteristics of a product, the particle size and their distribution influence in many production processes and applications its quality. Controlling the product quality is offline, online or inline an increasingly more important aspect for high cost effectiveness. Preventing reject batches or reducing statistic deviations are just two examples. The key element of the PZG 6 analysis system is the optical particle counter, which has proven to be excellent for a wide range of applications since many years. With this measuring principle the light extinction when a particle passes through a light beam is an indication of its size. The combination between extremely fast analogue electronics and downstream impulse digitalization is the basis for the accurate determination of the measuring value even with the required high speed of the particles. Primary outcome is the number distribution. The particle numbers to be measured is determined by the marginal conditions: number or volume distribution, scope of the distribution, form of the distribution and required statistical reliability. Possibly occurring product demixing during sample feeding does not falsify the result. The analysis system PZG 6 illustrated on page one is built for processing dry samples and is based on a modular design. It includes the following components:
Depending on the product features, the system can be used with optimally adjusted components for the size range of approx. 1 to 10000 μm. The illustrated PZG6 analysis is optimized for particle sizes ‹1200 μm and considers the adhesive force issue between fine particles. Through the separation of dosing, mechanical or pneumatic transport and the targeted use of shearing force, the particles are also dispersed in the low particle range, i.e. isolated. The size information is stored in the evaluation computer in 4096 size classes and can be displayed by the user in maximum 256 freely definable classes in tabular form and graphically. The transfer of results to EXCEL is a standard feature.
